An abandoned Tesla Cybertruck has become Seattle’s “shiniest new tourist trap” with residents turning the wrecked electric vehicle into a roadside memorial — tombstone and all.
The truck, which has apparent suspension issues around the driver’s rear wheel, caught the attention of Reddit users after a city resident shared a photo showing it abandoned on the road.
Elon Musk’s pride quickly began to draw some crowds who made a makeshift memorial for the expensive $82,000 EV.
“Please leave tons [of] candles (unlit of course, one spark and that battery will burn the whole city down), flowers and photos cut out of magazines with notes scrawled on them,” one user commented in a post showing the truck.
Around the same time, a bouquet of flowers and a mock tombstone appeared in photos shared on Reddit.
Other enthusiasts created a Google Maps location for the so-called “Cyberstuck” to guide other mourners to her location on Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
The owner of the vehicle, according to a user claiming to be an eyewitness, “wasn’t happy” with the overall situation.
“He said a kid hit his [Cybertruck] a few weeks ago and still trying to find insurance to fix it,” the Redditor claimed.
However, at the height of the roadside attraction’s popularity in September, another user commented that the city of Seattle turned people away from the “living meme” by towing the truck.
Another post about Cybertruck claimed the recall process was bumpy.
“It took them almost three hours because the first two flatbed trucks couldn’t load it,” one user commented. “Finally they got a traditional tow truck and pulled it back.”
Once the Tesla finally rolled off the city’s road, social media waxed lyrical about the passing roadside attraction.
“RIP Seattle Cybertruck 2024-2024,” one commented.
“Someone please order a real bin to be placed in his place as a memorial,” added another.
