Trump supporter punches Chicago mayor in the face moments before City Council rejects tax hike: ‘The feds should be on you’

Ahead of a Chicago City Council vote unanimously rejecting Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed $300 million property tax increase, local residents turned on the council and the mayor, slamming Johnson to his face for trying to raise taxes while gave food to illegal immigrants.

Among those angry locals were some supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, who, while wearing MAGA gear, bragged about how Trump’s victory means Johnson’s liberal policies — especially those that help illegal immigrants — will face a reckoning.

“Religions must address you! DD should address you! And hopefully Donald Trump will turn on you because you’re going to protect the undocumented while letting the citizens of Chicago suffer under you, what? Three percent?” Chicago resident Tyjuan Sims told the mayor Thursday night.

Chicagoans have been angry with Johnson and other city officials for some time, particularly over policies that allocate taxpayer money to benefit illegal immigrants who have flooded the city in recent years.

Locals grilled the Chicago City Council at a meeting in February after city and state officials approved hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to feed, clothe and house more than 35,000 migrants who have flown into Chicago and its suburbs in the past year. and – one and a half.

“They are destroying our country. And yes, we feel a certain way about it because it’s our country,” one Chicago resident said at the time.

“We’re going to remove them from our communities because they don’t deserve to be there.”

The City Council called the special meeting this week to vote on Johnson’s property tax hike proposal less than two months before the city adopts a new city budget.

In a historic rejection, all 50 members of the City Council voted against Johnson’s $300 million tax hike that would have raised the cost of Chicago homeowners up to 4 percent.

However, the Chicago Sun-Times noted, “The unanimous vote was largely symbolic. Negotiations to reduce or eliminate the property tax hike and replace it with a mix of new revenue and reprogrammed federal pandemic relief funds began last weekend.

As Illinois newspaper The Center Square reported, Johnson “said the property tax hike was necessary to avoid laying off city workers like police officers and firefighters as Chicago faces a budget gap of nearly 1 billion dollars”.

Before the vote, the Council allowed residents to address the city government, including the mayor, who presided over the meeting.

Some frustrated Chicagoans took their anger out on the mayor and shared their delight that the city was getting redder.

Resident Dennis White took to the microphone wearing a black MAGA hat with red lettering and asked the room, “How does it feel to have Trump in office now?”

“You see, Mayor Brandon Johnson, you underestimate us. You underestimate the black people and you underestimate the red of Chicago,” he continued, referring to Republicans in the city.

“You know that Trump had attracted 45 percent of voters in the state of Illinois, 37 percent in Chicago. This is the statistic. That means Illinois is turning purple. We will be red,” he warned.

“You’re like a schoolyard bully,” Jessica told Jackson Johnson. Dressed in an all-red outfit, she hit out at the mayor, adding, “But those of us who grew up on the south and west sides of Chicago, we all know at some point the bully gets cornered in an alley and everyone comes to him. . And he will have no one to help him. That’s you!”

So you and the rest of them who know what time it is, come. You leave that loss where it is. He is a loser! He’s a loser!”

Another local, who identified herself as Ms. Lawrence for her comments, trashed the mayor while wearing a red “Make America Godly Again” shirt.

She brought up Johnson’s latest approval numbers from Change Research showing him at a dismal 14 percent.

“The 14 percent rating is what you seem to have, Brandon Johnson — across the United States — about how you’re viewed. Rating 14 percent.”

She criticized him for proposing tax increases.

“What about our real estate? Because, look, we have paid for these properties for a purpose and not for you to go and touch them with the 300 million dollars you want to take out of the citizens’ pockets”.

She then shouted into the microphone, “Get rid of the illegals! And it will get you money right away. Start with that!”

The mayor’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
